Egg cup peking duck foot white perfect imperfection

The Egg Cup Peking Duck Foot White is a sculptural fine bone china egg cup from Serax, designed by Roos van de Velde for her Perfect Imperfection collection. A softly flared, almost petal-edged bowl rises from a slender ankle and settles onto a splayed duck foot, every toe and tendon modelled in relief. Seen in profile it reads as a tiny white sculpture that happens to hold breakfast.

Fine bone china gives the piece its thin, luminous walls, while the transparent glaze catches daylight along the rim and pools into soft shadow between the toes — the warm brown of a boiled egg sitting beautifully against the pure white. Each egg cup is hand-finished, so slight irregularities in shape and edge are part of its character rather than a flaw. Group two or three along a linen-covered breakfast table, mix them into a wabi-sabi tablescape of raw ceramics and stone, or leave one on a kitchen shelf as a quietly witty object. Dishwasher- and microwave-safe, food-safe, but not oven- or salamander-proof.
